Notes to the Consolidated Financial Statements 合併財務報表附註 The University of Hong Kong 香港大學 45 Notes: a. UGC Matching Grants The Government established Matching Grant Scheme in June 2003 to help enhance the fund raising capacity of the UGC-funded institutions and develop a stronger philanthropic culture in the community towards investment in education. Under the Scheme, all private donations pledged and paid to institutions for activities within the ambit of UGC recurrent grants were matched dollar for dollar up to the cap and thereafter on a 50% basis for amounts beyond upto the limit. The Seventh Scheme was launched in August 2017, where all private donations pledged and paid to local self-financing degree-awarding institutions. The Eighth Scheme was launched in July 2019 on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis up to HK$60.0 million and thereafter on a 50% basis. HK$393.6 million of matching grants were released to the University in last financial year. Under the Sixth and Seventh Schemes, Centennial College has also been included in the beneficiary list.
