GOVERNMENT SUBVENTIONS – Cont’d 政府補助撥款－續 Notes: a. UGC Matching Grants The Government established a HK$1,000 million Matching Grant Scheme in June 2003 to help enhance the fund raising capacity of the UGC-funded institutions and develop a stronger philanthropic culture in the community towards investment in education. Under the First Scheme, all private donations pledged and paid to institutions for activities within the ambit of UGC recurrent grants were matched dollar for dollar. Subsequent schemes, introduced in August 2005, June 2006, January 2008 and June 2010 respectively, were awarded on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis up to HK$45 million and thereafter on a 50% basis. The Sixth Scheme was launched in August 2012 on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis up to HK$60 million and thereafter on a 50% basis. The University was able to reach the upper limit of HK$250 million set for each institution under the first four Matching Grant Schemes, HK$220 million in the Fifth Scheme and HK$600 million in the Sixth Scheme. The Seventh Scheme was launched in August 2017, where all private donations pledged and paid to local self-financing degree-awarding institutions were matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to HK$12 million and thereafter on a 50% basis with an upper limit of HK$100 million. Under the Sixth and Seventh Schemes, Centennial College has been included in the beneficiary list and obtained HK$60 million and HK$1 million respectively.
