CONTINGENT LIABILITIES 或然負債 According to the joint venture agreement of HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College (“HPSHCC”) dated 15 November 2004 entered into between HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (“HKU SPACE”), a subsidiary of the Group, and Po Leung Kuk, HPSHCC is responsible for repaying a loan used by Po Leung Kuk to finance the HPSHCC building. As part of this agreement HKU SPACE and Po Leung Kuk are jointly and equally responsible for repayment of the loan if HPSHCC defaults in its obligations. During 2018/19, HPSHCC repaid all the remaining loan amount of HK$139.7 million. Therefore, HKU SPACE ceased to bear contingent liability after the loan repayment. HKU SPACE had provided a financial pledge to the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications for the accreditation of three bachelor programmes of Centennial College (“the Programmes”) to support and assure the financial viability and continuity of operation of the Programmes throughout the approved validity period of five years from 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2022. 31.
