The University of Hong Kong 香港大學 1 Treasurer’s Report 司庫報告書 (Expressed in Hong Kong dollars) 　（以港幣列賬） OVERVIEW The financial year 2017-18 was the second year of the 2016- 19 triennium. The Group continued to provide a world-class and intellectual environment striving for academic excellence in all aspects of teaching, learning, research and knowledge exchange. The Group’s consolidated financial results recorded a surplus of $1,409 million under the continuous and incremental funding support from UGC. In preparing the consolidated financial statements, the Group has adopted certain new/revised Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (“HKFRS”) issued by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants which are relevant and applicable to the Group’s operation and comply with the Statement of Recommended Practice for the University Grants Committee (“UGC”)-Funded Institutions. This was mainly due to increase in subventions from UGC as well as the donations and benefactions received during the year. Consolidated expenditure increased 2% to $9,455 million (2016- 17: $9,261 million), of which $6,891 million (2016-17: $6,545 million) was expended on the Group’s teaching, learning and research activities. 總覽 二零一七╱一八年度是二零一六╱一九三年撥 款期的第二年。本機構繼續提供世界級的學術 氛圍，致力於在教學、科研和知識轉移的各個 方面取得卓越的學術成就。受惠於教資會持續 的增量資助，本年度本機構錄得合併財務結算 盈餘十四億零九百萬元。 本機構編製合併財務報表時，採納了由香港會 計師公會頒佈的相關和適用於本機構運作的若 干新訂╱經修訂「香港財務報告準則」及大學教 育資助委員會（「教資會」）資助院校適用的建議 準則。 年度結算 截至二零一八年六月三十日止年度，本機構的 合併結算概述如下： 二零一七╱一八年度的合併收益合共為一百零 八億四千六百萬元，比上年度增加一千六百萬 元，主要是由於教資會補助撥款以及外界捐助 的增加。 本 年 度 的 合 併 支 出 較 去 年 增 加 約 百 分 之 二 ， 合 共 為 九 十 四 億 五 千 五 百 萬 元 （ 上 年 度 為 九 十 二 億 六 千 一 百 萬 元 ）， 其 中 六 十 八 億 九 千 一 百 萬 元（ 上 年 度 為 六十五億四千五百萬元）用於本機構的各項教 學及科研活動。 2018 Financial Report 二零一八財務報告 2 Treasurer’s Report 司庫報告書 (Expressed in Hong Kong dollars) 　（以港幣列賬） INVESTMENTS The Group continues to adopt a prudent, disciplined, diversified and long-term approach in managing its investments. In 2017- 18, investment markets continued to perform well and asset prices have improved, although the gain was not as strong as the previous year. As a result, the Group achieved positive return of 4.7% for the year (2016-17: positive 8.2%), with an overall investment profit of $930 million (2016-17: $1,446 million). The Group’s investment value as of June 30, 2018 was $22,592 million (2016-17: $21,351 million). RESEARCH GRANTS In addition to funding basic research infrastructure through the block grant, the UGC also provides earmarked grants via the Research Grants Council (“RGC”) under various funding schemes for bidding by individual principal investigators or institutions. A total of $295 million (2016-17: $296 million) of RGC grants was recognised as income by the University during the year. As well as grants from UGC, the Group also received grants from various local and non-local government agencies and related organisations for research purposes. For the financial year 2017- 18, $277 million (2016-17: $248 million) was recorded as income in the consolidated statement of comprehensive income. DONATIONS Dona t i ons tot a l i ng $641 mi l l i on ( 2016-17 : $445 mi l l i on ) were recorded as income in the consolidated statement of comprehensive income, of which $372 million (2016-17: $267 million) was for research; $96 million (2016-17: $38 million) for capital building and alterations, additions and improvement projects; $75 million (2016-17: $55 million) for scholarships, bursaries, prizes and loans; and $98 million (2016-17: $85 million) for various other purposes. 投資 本機構持續採取謹慎而守紀律、多元化及長期 持有等方針管理其投資項目。回顧年度內，環 球投資環境持續向好，資產價格亦有所提升， 但比上年度遜色。最終，本年度投資組合的整 體回報為正百分之四點七（上年度為正百分之 八點二），總投資收益錄得九億三千萬元（上年 度為十四億四千六百萬）。 以二零一八年六月三十日市值計算，本機構投 資總值為二百二十五億九千二百萬元（上年度 為二百一十三億五千一百萬元）。 科研補助金 除以整體撥款資助基礎研究基建項目外，教資 會亦透過研究資助局（「研資局」）推出不同資助 計劃，提供指定補助金以支持研究，由首席研 究員或院校以競逐撥款方式分配。是年大學獲 得研資局的補助金撥款合共二億九千五百萬元 （上年度為二億九千六百萬元）。 除了教資會的資助外，本機構還從不同的本地 及非本地政府機構和相關組織獲得用於研究用 途的補助金。本年度合共獲得二億七千七百萬 元（上年度為二億四千八百萬元），在合併綜合 收益表中以收益入賬。 捐助 合併綜合收益表中的捐助總數為六億四千一百 萬元（上年度為四億四千五百萬元），其中 三億七千二百萬元（上年度為二億六千七百 萬元）用於科研，九千六百萬元（上年度為 三千八百萬元）用於校舍基建與改建、加建及 改善工程等項目，七千五百萬元（上年度為 五千五百萬元）用作獎學金、助學金、獎金及 貸款，以及九千八百萬元（上年度為八千五百 萬元）作其他用途。
